Katie joined Charleston Parks Conservancy in May 2023. Her love of plants has been a lifelong affair. Growing up in Philadelphia, her passion for beautiful outdoor spaces was fueled by her mother whether they were ripping up an old garden or caring for neighbors gardens when they vacationed. This led Katie to Clemson University where she majored in Horticulture and interned at Walt Disney World’s, The Land at Epcot.
After earning her degree, Katie moved to Charleston where her varied experiences in the Horticulture industry has shaped her passion for growing food, flowers, and educating others. Her work at Hyam’s Garden Center, Kiawah Island Community Association, owning an event design company, and most recently as the Agriculture Education instructor at Lowcountry Leadership Charter School, Katie has a wide range of skills in Horticulture and loves to share her knowledge with others. As a certified Agriculture Education teacher at LLCS, Katie helped develop a 2.5 acre sustainable school farm on the campus including raised vegetable gardens, propagation hoop houses, barn and pasture space and much more. Plus creating an active high school FFA chapter, one of only 2 programs in Charleston County.
Katie and her husband have made Charleston home for the last 24 years and they have been married for 20 years with 3 children. When not working, Katie loves all things food related, sitting on the beach, and talking fireside with her family.
